For two thousand years, citrine has been the stone the ambitious kept close, carried by traders in the cash box, engraved by the Romans with symbols of success and known as the stone of the sun.

We chose it for its history, not for a promise.

02 What history tells us

1st C.

The Getty holds a first-century engraved citrine depicting Bonus Eventus, the Roman personification of success.

Trade

From the signet rings of Roman elites to merchants' cash boxes, citrine became known as the merchant's stone for its enduring association with prosperity.

1850's

Favoured by Queen Victoria, worn throughout the royal court and at Balmoral, then carried into fashion in the century that followed.
